Best Diving Seasons
Peak Times
Normally, May through July are the best months to go scuba diving at Bimini. During this period, the sea water temperature rises up to 79°-84°F (26°-29°C) which is warm enough for any diver. It’s when marine creatures get most active hence offering a chance to see many species like sharks, rays or bright corals. Furthermore visibility often exceeds 100 feet (30 meters), being perfect for underwater photographers who want take shots while exploring this area.
Off-Peak Times
August-April represents off-peak season with its own advantages and disadvantages: lower numbers of tourists means quieter atmosphere under water but also brings unpredictable weather as hurricane season goes from August till October; however cooler temperatures ranging between 72°-78°F (22°-25°C) still allow comfortable diving with proper wetsuit. Visibility may be somewhat reduced compared to peak times – around 60-80 feet (18-24 meters) yet still being good enough for enjoyable dives.
Diving Month by Month Guide
January-March: early months see lower temperatures averaging from 70°-75°F (21°-24°C) but being great for photo shooting due to good visibility. Expect nurse sharks, stingrays and occasionally hammerhead sharks;
April-June: temperatures start rising with average water temperature around 75°-80°F (24°-27°C) during this time larger ocean dwellers are met such as reef sharks or dolphins also visibility stays high although plankton blooms can occasionally decrease clarity;
July-September: the warmest season when it can get up to 82°-86°F (28°-30°C). However hurricane season is at its peak which affects weather conditions for diving. Despite visibility drops a little bit more fish species appear on corals reefs that become more colourful;
October – December: Cooler weather brings lower water temperatures ranging from 75°-78°F (24°-26°C) again marine life activity increases along with better visibility making these months wonderful for underwater exploration too. Bull sharks and whale shark may be seen in some areas.
Diving Conditions
Water Temperature
In Bimini, water temperature is warm enough for diving all year round. Normally, it varies between 76°F (24°C) in winter and 86°F (30°C) in summer. The water is relatively warm with the coolest period being from December through February. Even during this time most divers won’t find the temperatures uncomfortable.
Visibility
Visibility can be excellent in Bimini, sometimes reaching up to or even over 100 feet (30 meters). The best visibility is usually seen between March and June when there are fewer planktonic blooms. However, during the rainy season (July – September), visibility may decrease due to increased runoff and plankton activity.
Currents and Tides
Around Bimini the strength of currents vary from one dive site to another. Some sites have light currents which makes them perfect for relaxed diving or underwater photography while others located on reefs or along the Gulf Stream can experience strong currents ideal for drift dives. Tidal effects are more pronounced in shallower coastal areas where slack tides provide better conditions for less experienced divers.
Recap
To recapitulate – May, June and July are considered peak months for diving in Bimini because water is warmest then; there’s great visibility as well as abundance of marine life. One can come across playful dolphins or vibrant coral reefs here among other things. But still even though less crowded with tourists September to October has its own attractions too like different types of fish etc., so don’t forget about this option but be prepared for bad weather conditions too such as unpredictable storms etc.. No matter when you decide upon diving at Biminis – it will be unforgettable!
