As the weather is generally dry and stable, expect crystal clear waters with visibility often exceeding 25 meters. Marine life encounters include whale sharks, manta rays, and vibrant coral reefs. These months offer the boost in biodiversity, marking them as the best time for underwater photography enthusiasts.
April to June
The period from April to June transitions the archipelago into the early monsoon season. While still diveable, the frequency of rain increases, potentially reducing visibility to around 15-20 meters. The sea conditions may become rougher, and there’s a higher chance of encountering stronger currents. However, this period still allows for some rewarding dives, notably with the blooming marine flora and sightings of large pelagics like barracudas and reef sharks. Dive operators may become scarce, but with proper planning, divers can still enjoy this underwater paradise.
July to September
July to September marks the peak monsoon season in the Mergui Archipelago. Diving conditions are less predictable due to heavy rains, strong winds, and rough seas.
